André Joseph Grill, American artist (1916-1985) was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From an early age he aspired to be an illustrator for magazines and books. As he matured his interest grew more into fine art but his paintings always carried an illustrative narrative, even as his style evolved.

Grill studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at Academie Julian in Paris with the benefit of the G.I. Bill after World War II. He returned to America in 1952 where he spent most of his life in Wisconsin continuing to paint and innovate into the 1980s.
